Don’t be ashamed, we’ve all done it at least once: asked for help setting up our tent when camping. Even if you know exactly how to pitch a tent, chances are it’s not your favorite part of the outdoor experience, especially when you’re camping solo and have no one to commiserate with. Just a couple of months after unveiling its two-person TRT 140 AIR inflatable rooftop tent, Dometic has now brought its handy Air Frame to the ground for the single-person Pico.
Although Dometic is perhaps most known for its revered range of coolers and outdoor air conditioning units, the brand has been making an aggressive leap toward the shelter space. Built with an integrated (and comfortable) inflatable mattress with a separate inflation valve, the Pico FTC 1 sets up incredibly easily with minimal pegging points for a hassle-free setup. You simply use the accompanying electric pump to inflate the Air Frame in just a couple of minutes from a single point of inflation. Keeping the tent intact in severe winds compared to the unpredictability of a metal-framed tent, the tech consists of super durable TPU tubes that are surrounded by a heavy-duty polyester sleeve.
The Pico is also designed for comfort no matter what time of year you decide to venture out. Constructed with a polycotton material called Weathershield TC, the tent is made to minimize condensation and regulate internal temperatures. Likewise, bugs and critters will stay out thanks to the weather-protected windows, fully-sealed doors, and stepped entranceway. You can also turn the front entrance into a canopy with the included pole kit. Weighing under 19lbs, the Pico also fits inside a carrying bag equipped with backpack straps so you can wear it if you’re hiking to your campsite or riding to your trip via motorcycle.
