Seemingly out of nowhere, the wood-handled hunting folder has become the hottest corner in the knife world. Just this week, Buck rebuilt its legendary 110 around a crossbar lock and MagnaCut super steel, and now Benchmade is heading in the same direction with something entirely new. Rather than mining its archives for another reissue, the American blade-maker went and designed a fresh folding workhorse for its Hunt Collection, crowned the SlipRidge.

One Piece of a Three-Part Kill Kit
Technically, the SlipRidge isn’t one knife but a whole family. The folder headlines the trio alongside a beefier 3.8-inch drop point fixed blade and a skeletonized 440C gut hook, with the latter two sharing a modular Boltaron sheath for hunters who want a complete processing rig on one belt.

Our focus, though, is squarely on the folder, because that’s where the interesting engineering lives.

MagnaCut for the Gut Pile
At the heart of the 15090 sits a broad 3.5-inch modified clip point cut from CPM MagnaCut, which is still everyone’s favorite super steel, so we don’t need to sell you on the decision here.

Benchmade also runs the edge through its SelectEdge sharpening process at an ultra-precise 14 degrees per side. Deployment duties fall to ambidextrous thumb studs and the brand’s famously fidget-friendly AXIS Lock, while a deep carry clip rounds out the affair.

Pop-Off Scales with a Purpose
And while we love the knife, it’s the handles where the real clever engineering lives. The SlipRidge is built on full stainless liners with user-removable scales that completely conceal the pivot. The goal is here to keep hair, fat, and grit out of the action and ultimately turn post-hunt cleanup into a simple two-minute job.

Those scales double as a customization program, too. Complete knives ship in stabilized wood or Rust Orange G10, and swappable sets in black canvas micarta, carbon fiber, and OD Green G10 are sold separately.
