Everyday Carry: Grain

Category: Everyday Carry

One of our all-time favorite things about everyday carry is getting to watch craftsmen and manufacturers illustrate just how clever and inventive they can be. From novel designs to unique material applications, it seems there’s no shortage of imagination amongst those striving to build the best pocketable gear around. In the case of this week’s everyday carry, we wanted to highlight a somewhat overlooked material that, when handled well, can really elevate an EDC loadout. We’re talking, of course, about natural wood. Though the uninitiated might think wood is a one-note material, those in the know are aware of just how versatile it truly is — not just in its widely varying appearances but also in its pliability. To illustrate that, we’ve put together this week’s loadout complete with a quartet of pieces, all of which incorporate wood into their construction.

Moment iPhone 12 Walnut Case

Incorporating wood into a flat surface isn’t super impressive in itself, even if it does help elevate the appearance of this particular iPhone case. What is interesting, however, is that this case is also completely compatible with MagSafe charging, so you never have to take the case off to wirelessly charge your device. Pair that with the fact that it can protect your phone from a six-foot drop and you can see what makes this case special.

Case x WOODCHUCK USA Executive Knife

Case has been making outstanding folding knives for generations, and they’ve worked with every measure of materials. However, even for Case, this collaborative effort — built alongside WOODCHUCK USA — is pretty unique. This pocketable folder features a Tru-Sharp blade, a stainless steel handle with genuine wood inlays, a secure lockback mechanism, and a format/silhouette perfect for everyday carry.

Shwood CAMP Topo Sunglasses

Designed specifically with adventure in mind, Shwood’s CAMP Topo sunglasses are both sustainable and durable — offering a bio-based plastic frame with genuine wood inlays, 100% UVA/UVB protective polarized lenses, and they look great both in their color and silhouette, the latter of which we might even call timeless.

House of Marley Rebel True Wireless Earbuds

Yes, House of Marley owes its name to and was created in collaboration with the estate of late musician Bob Marley, focusing on his musical legacy and love for the planet. As such, the Rebel True Wireless Earbuds were actually made, in part, with sustainable materials — namely solid bamboo, a natural wood fiber composite, and more (even the packaging is recyclable). Of course, they also offer up to 30 hours of listening per charge (with the case), wireless charging, and superb sound.
