The 5 Best New EDC Knives of July 2022

While it can at times be difficult to justify spending several hundred dollars on a pocket knife, the reality is these purchases are markedly easier to justify when frequently used on a daily basis. And while there are undeniably grail knife models in the EDC space, the segment is constantly evolving month after month with an ever-growing number of freshly-released blades — five of the best of which we’re highlighting today in this guide to our favorite new knives on Blade HQ in July.

Spyderco Bow River Fixed Blade

Born out of a collaboration between Spyderco and custom knife-maker Phil Wilson, the Bow River is a solid yet affordable compact fixed blade knife that measures 8.14”. Tipping the scales at under 4oz, the Bow River features a full-flat ground 4.40” Trailing Point blade made from 8Cr13MoV and outfitted with one of Spyderco’s signature round hole openings. The fixed blade model’s blade is cloaked in a layered set of OD green and gray G-10 scales that are pinned to its full tang. Sold in a variety of color options, this knife also comes with an included black leather belt sheath with an embossed Spyderco logo.

Case Cutlery Kinzua

While Case Cutlery is best known for its traditionally-styled pocket knives, the brand has more recently entered the everyday carry knife space with a pair of award-winning American-made framelocking folding knives — one of which is the Case Kinzua. Constructed around an anodized, framelock-equipped aluminum handle, the Kinzua packs a 3.40” tanto blade that’s crafted from CPM S35VN steel and adorned in a stonewashed finish. Effortlessly deployed via a knurled flipper tab, the Kinzua’s blade is smoothly guided by a steel ball bearing pivot. This knife is also sold with a reversible deep-carry pocket clip.

GiantMouse Vox/Anso ACE Grand

Co-designed by Jens Anso and Jesper Voxnaes, GiantMouse’s ACE Grand Knife offers ample strength and utility in an affordable package. Measuring 8.00” with its blade deployed, the ACE Grand boasts a beefy single-piece backspacer and a stainless steel liner lock sandwiched between a set of sculpted canvas Micarta handle scales. Equipped with a deep-carry reversible wire pocket clip, the ACE Grand’s handle is paired with a 3.40” clip point blade that’s composed of ELMAX stainless steel and deployed via a uniquely-shaped thumb hole opening.

Benchmade Weekender

The latest release from Benchmade, the Weekender puts a modern spin on classic multi-blade pocket knives. This three-tool non-locking slipjoint packs a fold-out bottle opener, a 2.0” drop point blade, and a 3.0” clip point blade — the latter two of which are crafted from CPM S30V steel and deployed via pass-through nail nick openings. Made in America, the Weekender also sports a set of OD green micarta handle scales that are contrasted by custom orange-anodized pivot rings. In total, this three-tool folder weighs in at only 3.50oz.

DPx Gear Hest/F 3.0 DECADE

A top-shelf EDC knife through and through, the DPx Gear Hest/F 3.0 DECADE is an incredibly utilitarian, over-engineered folding knife made from an ultra-premium array of materials. The knife is pieced together around a blasted titanium handle that’s equipped with a framelock mechanism and mated to a stonewashed 3.25” Böhler M390 drop point blade. The blade features an integrated bottle opener that can also be used to open the knife when removing it from your pocket. Other noteworthy elements include a reversible deep-carry pocket clip, dual thumb-stud openers, and a super buttery IKBS bearing pivot.
