adidas’ Y-3 line, a sublabel with avant-garde fashion legend Yohji Yamamoto, kicked off in the early 2000s, and now its releases are just as anticipated as classics like Stan Smiths or Sambas. Many of Y-3’s silhouettes, like the Qasa, have become instantly recognizable among the imprint’s offerings and are now staples in the adidas lineup. These drops are celebrated for their unique takes on classic design while keeping utility and unique style in mind – not to mention the incredible quality. Although the sub-label isn’t typically associated with outdoor adventures outside of running, the adidas Y-3 Terrex Swift R3 GTX Hi is breaking new ground (literally) with an off-white debut this month.
Y-3 kept the outdoors in mind and built the shoe to adventure in tandem with you – and to look good while doing it. Taking inspiration from the original Terrex Swift R3 GTX hiking shoes, the sneaker is made from a blend of rubber, textile, and Neoprene. This high-top version fits securely around the ankle and on the foot, with laces and an upper zipper for reliable protection. Contributing to the shoe’s outdoor capabilities is the grippy Continental Rubber outsole, made in partnership with the German tire manufacturer. Alongside the low-top version of the Y-3 Terrex Swift R3 GTX, the sneaker provides high-quality traction in various weather conditions. The overall puffy demeanor of the shoe is in line with the futuristic flare of the Y-3 brand, but it also adds to the hiking shoe’s functionality.
The GORE-TEX lining also adds to the shoe’s security, ensuring water and debris are kept outside the sneaker, making for a rugged yet stylish shoe fit for the trail or a dinner party. You can unzip the enclosed upper part of the shoe to reveal the striking red gusset, with the aforementioned GORE-TEX label printed on the front.
Hit the trails this summer with the new adidas Y-3 Terrex Swift R3 GTX Hi shoes, available in off-white for $500 through the adidas website.
