Volkswagen Rolls Out a Fully-Redesigned, Tech-Laden Amarok Pickup Truck

Founded in Berlin in 1937, Volkswagen currently stands as one of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers, both in terms of unit sales and overall revenue. And while the German firm sells an enormous number of coupes, sedans, wagons, and SUVs, VW has never been a particularly dominant force in today’s pickup truck sector. In an effort to change this, Volkswagen has announced the release of its completely redesigned Amarok pickup.

Offered in four-door double cab or two-door single cab versions, the new generation of the Amarok aims to be markedly more versatile than its body-on-frame predecessor. Built in South Africa, the Amarok will feature two all-new 4motion all-wheel-drive systems with up to four modes, or a rear-wheel-drive setup. Powering the pickup is one of five different turbocharged engines making between 147.5hp and 297.7hp. A stretched wheelbase and an increased length also afford the pickup a larger, more utilitarian bed.

Absolutely loaded with tech, the latest-gen Amarok boasts mobile online services and more than 20 new driver-assist systems. The sleek interior of the truck has been equipped with a combination of digital and analog controls, as well as an available Harman Kardon audio system, an 8” digital cockpit display, and a 12” tablet-style central touchscreen. VW will also be offering Top PanAmericana and Aventura versions of the Amarok that come with leather trim and ‘IQ.LIGHT- LED matrix headlights’ as standard. Volkswagen will also be producing a wide range of lifestyle-focused accessories and add-ons for the Amarok, including 21” off-road wheels and tires and a modular carrier system that can support the pickup’s optional four-person rooftop tent.

While pricing has yet to be revealed, Volkswagen has stated that the 2023 Amarok pickup truck will be available in select markets in Q4 of this year. Though, frustratingly, the U.S. will not be one of those markets.
