Wiesmann Rolls Out a 912-HP All-Electric Roadster with Range of Over 300 Miles

Founded by brothers Martin and Friedhelm Wiesmann in 1988, Wiesmann GmbH is a boutique German outfit that focuses on meticulously crafting custom, hand-made sports cars that blend modern performance with traditional mid-century styling. And after several years of teasing a proton-powered project, the Dülme-based builder has now pulled the cover off of its very first fully-electric model with Wiesmann’s all-new Project Thunderball.

Constructed around an aluminum spaceframe chassis, Project Thunderball is powered by a dual rear-mid-mounted 680-kW electric motor setup that makes 912hp and more than 811ft-lbs of instantaneous torque at the rear wheels. Offered as a Coupé or Roadster, the car also features an 800-volt, 92-kWh battery pack that affords it a range of over 310 miles. Tipping the scales at under 4,000lbs, Project Thunderball – which packs a power-to-weight ratio of 5.5lbs per horsepower — can clock 0-60mph runs in just 2.9 seconds.

Project Thunderball sports a full suite of carbon fiber bodywork with vintage-inspired styling similar to that of Hispano Suiza. The interior of the vehicle boasts a similarly modern yet heavily retro influence, with diamond-stiched sport seats, a console-mounted display, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a and a seven-unit circular cluster arrangement set in a carbon fiber dash. Other noteworthy components and features on the car include electric power steering, 21” Wiesmann Aero1 wheels, an advanced traction control system, a nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution (48/52 to be exact), fully adjustable sports suspension with adjustable anti-roll bars, and a top-of-the-line braking setup with six-pot front calipers and quad-piston rear units, both of which are helped along by Dynamic Stability Control.

Slated to enter production alongside the company’s unreleased Project Gecko, the Wiesmann Project Thunderball Electric Roadster is available for order now, with pricing starting from €300,000 (~$316,850).
