Following a barrage of new case materials for its iconic Super Sea Wolf diver, Zodiac commemorates its 140th anniversary with a look back to the past as it pays homage to a mid-century military watch.
In recent vintage, Zodiac’s Olympos has become synonymous with the sub-$1,000 dress watch category for its high perceived value-to-price ratio. And over the past few years, the brand has released exclusive and limited releases of its original Olympos Military, based on the ‘60-era field watches made for the British Royal Navy. Now, the Texas-based company unveils a modern interpolation called the Olympos Field.
Ditching the date window from the dress watch and flattening the dial, these timepieces still keep the “manta” case, which has been increased from 37mm to 40mm. Boasting 200m of water resistance, the case itself is made of 316L stainless steel and holds a Swiss-made STP 1-11 automatic three-hand movement. It also has a “hacking” feature, which allows you to stop the second hand when setting the time, which was optimal for soldiers syncing their watches together.
Available now in either a dark gray dial version with a dark brown leather strap or a green dial version with a tan strap, the Olympos Field is priced at $895 from Zodiac’s website.
