Withing’s Latest Hybrid Smartwatch Looks & Feels Like a Luxury Diver

As the smartwatch industry has grown, we’ve seen more hybrid smartwatches that blur the line between tech gadgets and traditional horological instruments. But for the most part, these watches have largely had the look of either “oversized dress watch” or “generic sports watch.” In other words, no one had yet truly figured out how to recreate the most iconic and popular men’s watch style — the dive watch — and turn it into a smartwatch. Well, now someone has.

Withings, one of the pioneers in the hybrid smartwatch space, has released the ScanWatch Horizon, and it’s the closest we’ve seen yet to recreating the dive watch experience in a smartwatch. The 43mm case is made from 316L stainless steel and comes with both an Oyster-style stainless steel bracelet and an FKM rubber strap. The watch has an AR-coated flat sapphire crystal, LumiNova lume, applied stainless steel indices, 100m water resistance, and a rotating stainless steel dive-time bezel — all features you’d expect on a dive watch. But the ScanWatch Horizon is also an incognito smartwatch and health device with loads of features. The watch has advanced sleep tracking and can detect breathing disturbances, it can take an ECG through the bezel that acts as an electrode, and it can measure your blood oxygen levels. The watch also boasts robust activity tracking, continuous heart rate tracking, smartphone notifications, up to 30-day battery life, and more.

While available now in parts of Europe and the U.K., Withings is still waiting for FDA approval before they can sell the ScanWatch Horizon in the USA. Once approved stateside, the watch will retail for $500.
