Vacheron Constantin Built a Perpetual Calendar So Thin It Shouldn’t Be Physically Possible

Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas collection has always walked the line between sporty sophistication and formal elegance since its 1996 debut. Now, as the brand celebrates its 270th anniversary (no, that’s not a typo), they’re expanding their ultra-thin perpetual calendar lineup with two striking new variants: a full pink gold execution with matching dial and a white gold version sporting a rich burgundy lacquer face.

A Legacy of Thin Complications

The Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin first appeared in 2016, immediately establishing itself as a benchmark for slender complicated sports watches. At just 8.1mm thick, it houses the remarkable Calibre 1120 QP/1 movement — a mechanical computer that won’t need manual correction until 2100. This achievement becomes even more impressive when you consider that many simple time-only watches are thicker than this perpetual calendar.

The movement itself deserves recognition. Measuring just 4.05mm thick and incorporating 276 components, it manages hours, minutes, day, date, month, leap year indication, and moon phases while maintaining Geneva Seal certification. The 40-hour power reserve might seem modest, but it’s reasonable given the space constraints.

Two Distinct Personalities

The pink gold variant takes a monochromatic approach that’s luxurious and understated. The golden-toned lacquer dial creates visual cohesion with the case and bracelet, broken only by subtle blue accents on the minute track and leap year indicator. Even the moonphase disc matches in pink gold.

The white gold version takes a bolder path. That burgundy lacquer dial creates serious visual impact while maintaining legibility through white gold applied markers and hands. The dial-matching burgundy moonphase disc is a nice touch that prevents the complication from getting lost.

Like previous models, the case stretches 41.5mm across with 50m of water resistance. Both watches come with the brand’s easy-swap bracelet system and two additional rubber straps, transforming them instantly to sportier timepieces you could wear during the summer.
