Summer is almost here which means a parade of new colorways of our favorite watch models. And what better than Tudor’s heritage-inspired Black Bay 54.
Debuting in 2023 as a nod to the year the company debuted its first-ever dive watch (the Ref. 7922 Submariner), the BB54 was also the first to feature a modest 37mm case — an assertive deviation from the 41mm and 39mm versions of the regular Black Bay. This was small in comparison to modern divers but period-accurate when looking at the vintage 7922 from 1954. Yet, despite the smaller case, the water resistance remained at 200m, just like nearly every dive watch from the brand since the late ‘50s.

From the Ocean to the Shore
Putting all of that vintage mindset aside, Tudor has now come out with a Lagoon Blue colorway of the BB54, perfect for beach days and even lounging at the poolside. The light blue hue has been given a sandy texture, perhaps also inspired by the beach, and is contrasted with dark blue text and indices. Meanwhile, the snowflake handset and applied hour markers are white with metal outlines.
More than just a color swap, the Lagoon Blue also trades the black aluminum bezel insert for a stainless steel insert with mirror polishing. For a monochrome palette here, the 60-minute diving scale is also displayed in steel, getting a matte finish sunken into the metal.

Don’t Mess with Perfection
Luckily, this new edition doesn’t change our favorite aspect of the BB54: the dimensions. Boasting the same 200m water resistance, the 37mm case diameter returns, again in a stainless steel, with a modest 46mm lug-to-lug and 11.24mm thickness. Powering the watch is the standard COSC chronometer-certified Tudor-Kenissi Caliber MT5400 automatic movement, with a 4Hz beat rate and the superb 70 hours of power reserve.
However, fans of the black rubber strap option of your regular Black Bay 54 might not be thrilled about the Jubilee-style 5-link steel bracelet that comes exclusive with this watch. Of course, you could always swap it out if you’d like. The steel strap features the T-Fit system for micro adjustments like their other steel bands.
Blending what’s already proven to work with a fresh new face, this Lagoon Blue edition is certainly one of our favorites in the relatively young BB54 catalog.
