Since its release in 1965, Seiko’s first-ever professional diver, the Prospex 62MAS, has become an icon and a symbol of the dive watch category.
Although it’s been reinterpreted countless times over the years, few editions are as close to the spirit of the original as the latest SLA065, dubbed Prospex Save the Ocean Limited Edition 1965 Modern Re-Interpretation. Bumping up the case size from 38mm to a little over 41mm, the new model is part of the Save the Ocean series, a partnership between the Japanese watchmaker and the marine preservation organization.

Housed in a hard-coated stainless steel case with 200m of water resistance, the SLA065 runs on a caliber 8L35 automatic movement with 50 hours of power reserve and is paired with a blue silicone strap. However, at the risk of overshadowing everything else going on with this timepiece, the most prominent aspect is the navy blue dial, which features a unique design made to look like an astrolabe — those navigation instruments used by ancient sea travelers.

Limited to just 1,300 units, the Prospex Save the Ocean Limited Edition 1965 Modern Re-Interpretation will be available from Seiko starting in February for €3,000 (~$3,255).
