Simply put, there have been few players as special as Shohei Ohtani. Winning four unanimous MVP awards in less than a decade, the Japanese MLB star is both a slugger and an ace pitcher, and arguably the greatest two-way player the game has ever seen, possibly since Babe Ruth.
Seiko saw the signs of Ohtani’s greatness early on, enlisting him as a brand ambassador during his rookie year in the MLB (he was already a star in Japan). Its latest release honors the star’s back-to-back World Series wins with the LA Dodgers, giving its Prospex Diver’s 1965 Heritage a couple of stunning new editions.

Built on a Legacy
Seiko’s 1965 diver is one of those reference points that never really goes away. The original introduced a 150m water-resistant case at a time when dive watches were a serious tool category. The modern Heritage series preserves that lineage while wrapping it in contemporary specs like 300m water resistance, an upgraded movement, and sapphire crystal.
This is already the third time Seiko has leaned on that platform for an Ohtani collab, having previously dropped the SBDC191 in 2023 and the 1968-based GMT pair in late 2024. They clearly found a formula that resonates.

An Homage All the Way Through
The new collab comes in either gray (SBDC222) or blue (SBDC224) dials, pulled from the Dodgers’ visiting uniform palette, paired with a stunning vertical texture. Elsewhere, you get gold accents across the bezel, crown, hands, and indices, referencing the MLB logo patch worn exclusively by players who earned MVP, Cy Young, or Rookie of the Year honors in the prior season. Ohtani has worn it, so this watch wears it too.

The crown is engraved with “17” to nod at his jersey number, and the clasp carries his etched signature alongside a six-stage micro-adjustment system that expands the bracelet up to 15mm. Meawhile, the caseback is inscribed with “SHOHEI OHTANI LIMITED EDITION” and an individual serial number.
Inside, you get the in-house Caliber 6R55, which is Seiko’s workhorse automatic with a 72-hour power reserve, hacking seconds, and manual wind capability.
