If you’re tired of looking at your classic Rolex Daytona or Omega Speedmaster, then consider Ressence, a fairly new watchmaker out of Belgium that’s been wowing enthusiasts with its minimalist, yet striking design language since it first debuted in 2010. While the company has given slight variations to its style, from its Type 1 to its Type 5 to its Type 8, Ressence has almost always leaned on monochromatic aesthetics. However, with its latest timepiece, the firm has dipped into the world of primary colors.
Earlier this year, Ressence unveiled the Type 1° Round, a slightly updated version of the flagship Type 1 watch that had been around since 2014. Removing the crown and slimming down the case, the brand also simplified the dial by removing the 5-minute markers from the outer minute track and improving readability. Like its entire catalog, the Type 1° Round utilizes the Ressence Orbital Convex System (the ROCS 1.3 automatic movement using a customized ETA-base 2892 caliber) that places its subdials on the same orbiting plane as its minute hand.
For the new Multicolour variant, the Type 1° Round becomes even more legible through contrast. Housed in the same 42.7mm grade 5 titanium case, each of the three subdials features a different color. Surrounded by the blue minute track is a white dial with an hour subdial in green, a seconds subdial in yellow, and a days-of-the-week subdial in red. Moreover, the tip of the light gray hand for each subdial borrows its color from one of the others. The hour markers and indices are applied with white paint. Not only does Ressence add playfulness to a watch that’s already one of the most playful around but the multi-colored design adds utility as well.
Like the other Type 1° Round models, the Multicolour version is priced at CHF16,800 (~$19,180). It will be available this winter from Ressence retailers. Head over to the company’s website to learn more.
