Despite having a history that goes back nearly a century, Tudor’s GMT prowess is not as strong as other Swiss luxury brands. While ’00s-era models such as the Aeronot GMT and Iconaut certainly showed their interest in dual-time zone watches, it wasn’t until the debut of the Black Bay GMT in 2018 that Tudor struck proverbial gold.
Proof of the BB GMT’s success, the brand is now collaborating with two revered streetwear stalwarts for its most exclusive model ever.
Tudor’s First-Ever Three-Way
The announcement came during PHANTACi’s 19th-anniversary celebrations, where Tudor joined forces with Jay Chou’s Taiwanese streetwear label and LA-based sneaker and apparel powerhouse Undefeated for a Friends & Family edition that redefines rarity. It’s unprecedented territory for a brand that rarely allows outside names on its watches.
For this limited-to-99 Black Bay GMT, the changes are subtle. Tudor swapped the standard 6 o’clock text for gold-printed brand names of both collaborators, stacked above Chinese characters reading “World Time Machine” — an appropriate nod to the GMT complication. The caseback trades Tudor’s typically clean approach for a black laser engraving featuring an atomic-inspired pattern with all three logos at its nucleus, plus individual numbering out of 99 pieces.
Streetwear Credentials
PHANTACi launched in 2006, building a devoted following across Asia while collaborating with the likes Nike and Cole Haan over the years. Undefeated goes back even further to 2002, starting as a sneaker boutique before becoming the first shop to design an exclusive Jordan Brand collaboration in 2005 — the now-legendary Undefeated Air Jordan 4.
Pretty Much the Same
The watch itself remains technically identical to the standard Black Bay GMT. You get the 41mm stainless steel case with Tudor’s rivet-style bracelet, the burgundy and blue aluminum bezel insert, and 200m of water resistance. Inside is the Manufacture Calibre MT5652, Tudor’s COSC-certified automatic GMT movement with independent local hour hand adjustment, silicon balance spring, and that impressive 70-hour power reserve. Likewise, the snowflake hands and applied hour markers stay true to Tudor’s vintage-inspired design language.
