It’s certainly trendy these days for companies in all industries to pay lip service about making the world a better place, but few of them really do anything to help. Independent Swiss watchmaker Oris, however, is one that actually comes through for the community. Through its Change for the Better initiative, Oris has partnered with various non-profits, environmental foundations, and humanitarian organizations to influence global change in positive ways. And it’s doing so again with its latest limited-edition release.
Oris has partnered with Wings of Hope, an aviation-based organization that brings medical support to around 65,000 people per year in remote and underprivileged communities around the world. Twice nominated for a Nobel Peace Price, the organization was founded in 1963 in St. Louis and today is active in over 50 countries, using the power of aviation to improve people’s lives. To help spread the word about the organization and its mission, Oris is releasing two limited-edition pilot’s watches based on its flagship Big Crown.
There are two versions of the Oris Wings of Hope Limited Edition watches: A 40mm stainless steel model, and a 38mm style with a solid gold case. Both models are powered by Oris’ stellar in-house Calibre 400 automatic movement that offers a 120-hour power reserve, robust anti-magnetic properties, and precision within COSC specifications. Both watches feature white dials with old-school aesthetics and a small seconds subdial, and both are sold on brown Cervo Volante sustainable deer leather straps.
The steel version of the Oris Wings of Hope Limited Edition is limited to 1,000 pieces and is priced at $3,700. The gold version, unsurprisingly, is quite a bit rarer and more expensive. Priced at $17,000, its production is limited to just 100 watches worldwide. The gold style is available to order through Oris’ website now, while the steel version is due to arrive this October.
