Traditionally speaking, the horological world has possessed a fairly uptight and conservative attitude, especially in the more premium part of the space. In a bid to inject a bit of fun and livelihood into contemporary watchmaking, Swiss brand Oris has entered into an unlikely — and thoroughly playful — collaboration with Disney’s The Muppets in order to deliver a limited run of Kermit the Frog-ified ProPilot X watches.

Based on Hölstein horologist’s existing 39mm ProPilot X Caliber 400 model, the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition Watch boasts a sleek-looking titanium case that sports a fixed turbine-inspired bezel design and a matching titanium three-link bracelet — elements that go unchanged from the regular ProPilot X. Taking inspiration from Jim Henson’s beloved amphibian puppet, the timepiece has been treated to a Kermit green dial contrasted via white indices, minute markers, and text — with the latter hue being a nod to Kermit’s eyes. The watch’s exhibition caseback is also encompassed by a bezel that’s been engraved with “KERMIT EDITION” along with several of the watch’s other specs like its 100-meter water resistance rating and titanium construction.

Making this already idiosyncratic watch all the more unique is the fact that its date window has been bestowed with a tiny image of Kermit’s head and collar that pops up in lieu of a “1” — an element that Oris describes as a reminder on the first day of each month to enjoy life and not take things too seriously. At the heart of the watch is Oris’ Caliber 400 movement — an absolute masterpiece of a motor that the Swiss outfit spent a cool half-a-dozen years meticulously developing before bringing to market. Backed by a very generous ten-year warranty, this 21-jewel automatic movement features stellar antimagnetic properties, a low-friction slide bearing system (in place of a ball bearing system), a wildly-impressive five-day power reserve, and an accuracy of -3/+5 seconds a day, making it more precise than a chronometer.
