There’s nothing more frustrating (okay, maybe a few things) than seeing a mysterious new watch on the wrist of a celebrity without any indication of what the watch is or when it will be officially released, if ever. We all know Daniel Craig (aka James Bond) is a big watch guy and has a partnership with Omega. A few months back, he arrived at New York’s Planet Omega exhibition with a white-dialed Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional. It was a deliberate tease to cue up a future release. And luckily for us, the wait is over as the Swiss icon has now officially unveiled the enigmatic timepiece so we can see it up close.

In terms of specs, this variant is pretty standard with an asymmetrical 42mm stainless steel case with a black aluminum tachymeter bezel and runs on an in-house Master Chronometer-certified caliber 3861 chronograph movement exposed through the sapphire caseback. For a classy look and a good deal of contrast, the dial features glossy white lacquer (a first for the Moonwatch), which spreads to the three chronograph registers. To balance it out, the hands are black with the chronograph second hand having a red tip to match the “Speedmaster” text at the top. It’s all adorned with a steel bracelet, although black leather is available too.

While this may seem like just an ordinary new version of the classic Speedmaster chronograph (and honestly, we wouldn’t fault you for lack of excitement), it harkens back, perhaps unintentionally, to Omega’s “Alaska Project” Speedmaster from the ‘60s and ‘70s, which were designed by the brand specifically for manned space flight (the famous NASA-used Moonwatches weren’t originally made for the space journeys they took).

If you’re into this new lacquered white-dial Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, you’ll be happy to know it’s not limited in edition size. Priced at $8,100, the timepiece will be available in the coming weeks from Omega.
