OMEGA’s New Seamasters Pull Inspiration from Its 27-Year History with James Bond

I’m sure by now you’ve heard that this year celebrates the 60th anniversary of James Bond on the silver screen. Over the past few months, we’ve seen special-edition cars, boots, colognes, suits, suitcases, and even liquor bottles. Now, add to that list a pair of watches.

Wristwatches are an essential element to any gentleman’s wardrobe, and 007 is nothing but the paragon of a gentleman. However, OMEGA wasn’t part of the James Bond cinematic lore until 1995’s GoldenEye when Pierce Brosnan, as Bond, donned a Seamaster 300m Quartz diver on his arm. For nine films, up to the most recent No Time to Die in 2021, the secret agent has worn some iteration of the Seamaster.

To celebrate its 27-year partnership, OMEGA has now released two versions of the Seamaster 300m Diver “60 Years of James Bond Edition.” The first one, which features a 42mm stainless steel case and a blue dial with laser-engraved waves, is a direct homage to that first timepiece from GoldenEye, although it swaps the quartz movement for a Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 and adds a mesh bracelet like the one from No Time to Die. Featuring all the same specs, OMEGA is also releasing an 18k Canopus Gold version with a natural gray silicon dial and green and yellow diamonds on the bezel — both nods to author Ian Fleming’s Jamaican home where he created Bond.

As an extra detail, both watches feature a see-through caseback with the spinning gun barrel iconography and a silhouette of 007 on top. Prices for the OMEGA Seamaster 300m “60 Years of James Bond Edition” watches start at $7,600.
