IWC Finally Adds a Black Dial Version to Its 41mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph

Few accessories are more popular than a stainless steel watch with a black dial. Depending on the watchmaker’s preferences, this combo can either blend in or stand out; be bold or understated. And when paired with an all-time classic, it’s possible to be both.

In 2021, IWC reduced the size to 41mm, improved the water resistance to 100m, and updated the movement of its iconic 43mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph, but only made it available in blue and green dial colors. Onlookers and fans speculated whether or not the German watchmaker would ever unveil a black version. Lo and behold, it only took a couple of years, but that version is now here.

The new variant of the 41mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph features the same in-house caliber 69385 automatic movement exposed through the caseback, the same brushed stainless steel case construction with a polished bezel, and even the same chronograph subdial configuration. However, the dial itself is matte black, which gives the timepiece more of a vintage aesthetic and allows it to appear a touch more aggressive.

Accompanied with either a racing-style calfskin leather strap or dressier stainless steel bracelet, the new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 in black is available now from IWC’s website, starting at $7,600.
