Debuting in 2013, the G-SHOCK Rangeman has become synonymous with the affordable yet rugged adventure watch. It was the first from the Casio sub-label to feature the now-standard Triple Sensor tech — named because it has a compass, altimeter/barometer, and thermometer — and in 2018 became the first G-SHOCK with GPS navigation and a Memory-In-Pixel (MIP) display. Simply put, the Rangeman was made for the outdoors, whether traversing snowy mountain peaks or desert terrains. And while making rare appearances in the brand’s current lineup, the timepiece certainly has its fans and is now seeing a big update to open up the new year.

Updating the original GW-9400 model and tapping into some of the features of the discontinued GPR-B1000, the GPR-H1000 is the newest flagship in the Rangeman series. Intended for professional field use with its aforementioned Triple Sensors and GPS navigation, the watch will also appeal to everyday wearers even more with its new health and fitness features. These include an optical heart rate monitor, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer for tracking your steps. Hardcore journeymen and gym rats alike will benefit from blood oxygen data, cardio load status, sleep monitoring, and information about how your energy is used, such as the ratio of fat, carbs, and protein. There’s also an activity log for nine different types of activities.

Unlike the B1000, the H1000 won’t have route navigation but the GPS will be used for location accuracy to help with features such as a tide graph, a moon phase indicator, and sunset/sunrise information. Resistant to mud and dust thanks to its cylindrical gasket system, the watch is also shock resistant and water resistant to 200m like a standard G-SHOCK. Other features include solar-assisted charging and Bluetooth phone linking.

For now, the GPR-H1000 is only announced in Japan, with a price of ¥66,000 (~$464), but will be released in the United States sometime in the following months. Head to G-SHOCK’s website to check out the watch.
