Coming to prominence in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the panda dial has been one of the most consistently-popular styles of watches over the past few decades, with enthusiasm for both vintage and new iterations remaining quite high. This week alone we’ve seen the release of two new panda dials, first with TAG Heuer’s Carrera and now with Baltic’s Tricompax.
Following its own release from earlier this year when it debuted its first-ever manual Tricompax, Baltic has released the Panda and Reverse Panda variants, featuring either an off-white dial with black subdials or a black dial with off-white subdials, respectively. The Tricompax name refers to the three chronograph totalizers at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, a configuration that also rose in popularity in the racing world in the 1960s.
While the French company’s Tricompax variants often get released in limited editions, the two new panda dials are set to be regular production watches, although the first 200 of each style will be numbered on the back. Both will have 39.5mm stainless steel cases with black aluminum tachymeter bezels and will run on Sellita SW510-M manual movements.
Decidedly one of the more vintage-looking pandas we’ve seen in a while, the Baltic Tricompax Panda and Reverse Panda will both be available to pre-order on December 1 for €1,645 (~$1,699) with deliveries beginning in April.
