Alpina’s Seastrong Diver Extreme Channels Vintage Charm With Modern Muscle

Since launching its first professional dive watch in the 1960s, Alpina’s Seastrong collection has maintained its reputation as one of the most capable tool watches in the Swiss watchmaker’s arsenal. The collection took an angular turn last year with the introduction of the Seastrong Diver Extreme, borrowing the signature cushion-shaped case from Alpina’s land-based Alpiner Extreme series. Now, softening that bold aesthetic with a touch of vintage charm, Alpina introduces two new colorways that trade stark modernity for nostalgic warmth.

Fauxtina Done Right

The most notable addition to both new variants is the application of “Old Radium” Super-LumiNova across the dial — a cream-colored luminous material that mimics the patina of vintage tritium or radium. While purists might scoff at artificial aging on a watch that debuted in 2024, the effect here is welcomed, and a nod to the brand’s 87-year legacy. Applied to the hands, indices, and even the counterweight of the seconds hand, this warmer lume treatment takes the hard edge off the Extreme’s angular 39mm cushion case.

You get your choice between a sandblasted black dial (ref. AL-525B3VE6) or a grain-textured khaki option (ref. AL-525K3VE6). Both feature Alpina’s signature oversized triangular marker at 12 o’clock and a date window at 6 o’clock, thoughtfully equipped with its own luminous strip for underwater readability.

Built for Business

Despite the retro styling, the Diver Extreme remains a serious tool watch. The unidirectional ceramic bezel features chunky notches for those wearing gloves, while the screw-down crown is protected by guards on either side. Water resistance remains at a robust 300m, backed by a three-piece case construction with both brushed and polished surfaces.

Inside, you’ll find Alpina’s AL-525 movement, based on the reliable Sellita SW200 with a 38-hour power reserve and 28,800vph frequency. Both models come fitted with black leather strap with a folding clasp.
