The Macallan Taps into Coffee Culture for Its 2nd Harmony Collection Whisky Release

Last year, one of the most renowned distilleries in the world, the Macallan, debuted its latest limited-edition annual series, the Harmony Collection. Last year’s inaugural release looked to the world of chocolate for its inspiration with a pair of cacao-leaning single malts.

Available soon, the sophomore outing for the Harmony Collection shifts adjacently to the realm of coffee, featuring yet another pair of single malt expressions: Inspired by Arabica and Smooth Arabica. The Harmony Collection begins with the packaging itself, this time using coffee bean husks that would have otherwise been tossed out.

Then there are the whiskies themselves, which each came with input from five coffee experts from around the globe. Inspired by Arabica evokes the strength and deep notes of espresso, such as rich dark chocolate, and is bottled at a higher 88 proof. Meanwhile, Smooth Arabica has a softer profile with a slight spice and features some of the fruitier notes imparted by the coffee bean. Both whiskies were aged in sherry-seasoned American and European oak barrels.
