Black-owned businesses are still a rarity in the premium spirits industry. Though the space is progressing somewhat well in terms of diversity in recent years, black-owned labels remain far from prominent. Two standouts in the market, however, are Ten to One Rum and Uncle Nearest Whiskey. These two fantastic labels have teamed up for a delicious and impactful collaboration to celebrate Black History Month. Specifically, their new spirit honors the Black pioneers who played a role in the development of the alcohol industry but were lost in the annals of history.
The Ten to One x Uncle Nearest Bourbon Cask Finish Caribbean Dark Rum combines the best of both these brands’ boozy worlds. It takes Ten to One’s premium Caribbean dark rum, which is an 8-year-old mix of Barbados, Dominican, and Trinidadian column still rums, and ages them in 1856 Bourbon cask barrels from Uncle Nearest. The sweetness of both the rum and the bourbon casks makes for a compatible marriage of flavors that elevates the already delectable flavor profile of Ten to One’s dark rum.
This rum features a palate with notes of acacia honey, spiced apple, toasted pecan, crème brûlée, black currant, and charred wood. As always, Ten to One’s rums are free of added sugars, dyes, or flavoring. In addition to the delicious rum, this collaboration gives drinkers the option of buying the first edition of Ten to One’s “Kindred Spirits” cocktail book, which celebrates black excellence in mixology and features 28 recipes from black bartenders throughout the country.
Rarely do you find celebrations of black excellence in the alcoholic spirits industry, which makes this premium collaboration all the more special. The Ten to One x Uncle Nearest Bourbon Finish Caribbean Dark Rum is available for limited release starting at $65.
