High West’s 2022 Campfire Whiskey Aims to Curb Actual Wildfires

Out of all U.S. states, Utah doesn’t exactly have the biggest reputation as an expert distiller of alcohol. But High West Distillery is changing that perception. In 2006, the company became the state’s first legal distillery since 1870, and since then it’s been drawing fans from all over the country with its tasty whiskeys, with one of its most popular being its seasonal Campfire whiskey.

High West has just unveiled its 2022 iteration of Campfire, and it did so alongside some exciting news for Utah and the rest of the American West. The brand has launched an initiative called Protect the West, where it is pledging $1 million over the next three years to various organizations that are committed to protecting the west from the disastrous effects of climate change. The donations will focus on shoring up three areas: fighting wildfires, protecting winters, and wildlife preservation.

Kicking off the Protect the West initiative in honor of Campfire’s release is a $50,000 donation made to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, which helps families of firefighters who’ve been killed or injured in the line of duty. The distillery is also matching donations to the organization up to another $50,000. As for the whiskey itself, it’s an interesting mix that’s definitely worth seeking out. A blend of Scotch, bourbon, and rye, High West touts a complex flavor profile that includes s’mores, burnt almond toffee, tobacco, balsam fir needles, and campfire smoke.

Bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV), Campfire is available from select retailers for $80. You can find out where to get it — as well as make a donation to the Protect the West initiative — at High West’s website.
