While the highly-anticipated sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders first aired overseas back in February (ending in April), the Prohibition Era BBC series debuts Stateside on Netflix on June 10. To coincide with its release, Bushmills has partnered with the show’s brand owner, Caryn Mandabach Productions, for a new limited release called Prohibition Recipe Irish Whiskey.
For those who haven’t watched the series, Peaky Blinders follows the titular Irish crime family and its patriarch, Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), throughout their exploits in England in the early 20th century. Each season jumps ahead in time, with the latest set in 1933, just as the repeal of Prohibition was happening in the United States.
To achieve the notes of rye bread, orange marmalade, cinnamon, and almonds, Bushmills’ Prohibition Recipe blends three different whiskey stocks, each aged in ex-bourbon barrels for either 3, 4, or 5 years. Master Distiller Colum Egan used distilling techniques that were common in early whiskey-making. The bottle itself has been modeled after the vintage Bushmills bottles that can be seen in several episodes of the series. The visible cork lid and blue-tinted glass are fitting for the 1920s-era look, and the Shelby family emblem can be seen on the label next to that of the 400-year-old distillery.
