The James Brand Unveils an EDC Scalpel for Opening Vinyl Records

Since its inception in 2012, The James Brand has represented more than just a knife and everyday carry gear company, instead standing as a bonafide lifestyle brand. As such, the Portland-based blade purveyor has routinely taken part in frequent collaborations with other gear companies and lifestyle outlets — the latest of which sees The James Brand join forces with vinyl record subscription service, Vinyl Me, Please to deliver a fixed-blade cutting tool made specifically for opening records.

Touted as an “EDC scalpel,” this compact little blade — which has been dubbed “The Abbey” — features a round frame with a pointed, triangular tip designed for piercing the film around LPs. To create The Abbey’s custom scales, TJB has sourced VMP records and then used each 12” LP to create 20 sets of handle scales. Measuring 3.0” in length, the full-tang blade on this compact little cutter is composed of AR-RPM9 — a proprietary powder metallurgy stainless steel made by Artisan Cutlery.

Boasting a weight of 0.6oz and a 0.2-inch thickness, the blade also features a Vinyl Me, Please logo on one side and a James° logo on the other. In addition to being sold with a felt-lined top-grain black leather sheath with embossed TJB and VMP branding, the Abbey Knife also comes with an included 3mm paracord and a custom TJB x VMP-branded EDC lanyard bead that’s modeled after a vinyl record — both of which bestow The Abbey with even more character.

Sold on both The James Brand and the Vinyl Me, Please websites, the TJB x VMP Abbey Knife is available now — albeit in limited numbers — with pricing set at $79.

Purchase: $79
