YETI Rolls Onto Pelican’s Turf With Its First Wheeled GoBox Gear Cases

YETI has a well-worn playbook at this point. Pick a category full of perfectly functional but uninspiring equipment, rebuild it in absurdly overbuilt fashion, and watch everyone else in the space scramble to catch up. Coolers got that treatment two decades ago, and categories like drinkware, luggage, and even cast iron have followed since. Now the brand is aiming that same strategy squarely at the protective case world with its new LoadOut GoBox Wheeled Gear Cases.

Rolling Up On Pelican’s Turf

Anyone who’s stood at a baggage carousel next to a film crew knows the hard case category already has a king, and its name is Pelican. YETI, apparently, isn’t intimidated.

The wheeled GoBox arrives in three sizes (28, 68, and 88, loosely matching their liter capacities), and the 28 is the one aimed directly at the throne. At 22″ x 14″ x 9″ and 13.5 pounds, it clears most airlines’ carry-on requirements, and its $350 sticker lands within arm’s reach of Pelican’s $315 1535 Air, the carry-on benchmark it’s so clearly gunning for.

What “WildProof” Actually Means

YETI stamped the name “WildProof” on the construction, and they back that up with some hardwearing specs as well. All three cases carry IP65 and IP67 ratings, meaning they’ll shrug off pressurized water jets and survive a full 30 minutes submerged under a meter of water. There’s even a pressure relief valve that automatically equalizes the air inside, so the lid won’t vacuum itself shut after a flight.

Rolling duties fall to a pair of puncture-resistant NeverFlat wheels borrowed from YETI’s wheeled cooler program, paired with a retractable aluminum Periscope handle. Lockdown latches, lockports, tie-down slots, and non-slip feet round out the affair.

The Ecosystem Is the Hook

Here’s where YETI separates itself from the airport-case crew. Every wheeled GoBox accepts the brand’s full LoadOut accessory catalog. This means the lid takes either a MOLLE panel or the PackAttic organizer, while the tub holds Gear Cubes and KOR Protective Inserts.

None of it comes in the box though, and the 28’s insert kit alone runs $250. Meanwhile, the long-and-low 68 swallows 31″ arrow tubes and fly rods, and the deep-welled 88 is the full basecamp-in-a-box option, and both are sized for checked luggage.
