Now that working from home is becoming more common and creatives are utilizing digital spaces for projects, a quality monitor is essential to most people’s workflow these days. And it’s not just the resolution and size that matter; having quality-of-life features that assist you during projects and improve the overall user experience is also important. The Apple Studio Display is one of the go-to high-end monitors for creatives who value solid build quality and crisp visuals. And when Samsung revealed the ViewFinity S9 at this year’s CES (which won the CES Innovation Award in 2023), it was clear that the S9 was positioned to be the Apple Studio Display alternative from the jump. Now, Samsung has revealed more details about the ViewFinity S9, including the price and launch schedule.
This monitor was designed with creatives in mind, and built to give them premium visuals and performance on a 27” 5K (5120 x 2880) display (50% bigger than competing UHD monitors). With 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut covered, the display outputs true-to-life colors and visuals, and with a brightness of 600 cd/m2, you can efficiently work in multiple lighting environments without compromising image quality. A 4K SlimFit camera and speakers are built into the monitor, making meetings and collaborations simple. And there are three connection types, including a Thunderbolt 4 (capable of providing 90W of power), a Mini DisplayPort, and a USB-C input.
The S9 also comes with the Smart Calibration feature, which you can control with your smartphone through the SmartThings app. This allows you to toggle between a variety of settings and modes to control the gamma, color temperature, and luminance. The Smart TV app is also preloaded on the monitor, so you can also enjoy your favorite streaming services without a PC.
The Samsung ViewFinity S9 is coming this August for $1,599.
