Samsung’s S25 Edge Is the Thinnest Galaxy Ever at 5.8mm and Is Constructed from Titanium

Samsung’s long-rumored ultra-thin smartphone has finally been unveiled, and it’s going to become quite the star. The new Galaxy S25 Edge measures a super-slim 5.8mm thick, making it Samsung’s thinnest slab phone ever while still packing most of the flagship features we’ve come to expect from the S-series. With titanium construction taken from the S25 Ultra and a 200MP main camera, Samsung is clearly positioning this as a premium device, even if it’s one with some interesting compromises made in the name of slimness.

LIGHT AS A FEATHER, STRONG AS TITANIUM

The S25 Edge’s name is somewhat misleading, as it doesn’t feature the curved display edges we saw on Samsung’s Edge devices back in the mid-2010s. Instead, the “Edge” moniker here refers to the phone’s cutting-edge thinness. With a profile measuring only 5.8mm from front to back and tipping the scales at a featherlight 163g (5.7oz), the Edge somehow manages to incorporate a 6.7-inch display (the same size as the S25+) without feeling unwieldy. The device uses a titanium frame like the S25 Ultra rather than the aluminum found in the standard S25 models, giving it unexpected durability despite its compact profile.

The display itself is a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel running at QHD+ resolution with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, protected by Corning’s new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. Unlike the S25 Ultra, however, there’s no anti-reflective coating, which might prove problematic in bright lighting conditions, especially at lower screen brightness levels. However, despite its thinness, the Edge still maintains the IP68 dust and water resistance rating found across the S25 lineup.

THE THIN COMPROMISE

According to Samsung, its engineers leaned on lessons learned from their foldable lineup, specifically the Galaxy Z Fold 6 (which measures just 0.22” thick when unfolded), to create such a thin yet capable device. On the other hand, they’ve had to make some notable sacrifices to get there.

While the company claims to have not compromised on the S25 Edge’s features, the reality is a bit more nuanced. Most notably, the Edge packs an underwhelming 3,900mAh power cell that falls short of the entire S25 lineup, trailing even the entry-level S25 model (4,000mAh) and offering substantially less capacity than you’ll find in the S25+ (4,900mAh). The company insists it’s still an “all-day phone” that should outperform the Galaxy S24, but if you were looking for something with a little more legs, you may want to opt for a different model.

The charging capabilities are also limited compared to the pricier S25+ and Ultra, with the Edge supporting only 25W wired fast charging (versus 45W on its siblings), along with 15W wireless charging and the now-standard reverse wireless charging feature.

Not as Picture Perfect

Camera-wise, the Edge also represents a step back from the triple-lens setups found across the rest of the S25 line. Instead, you get just two rear cameras: a 200MP main lens (the same impressive sensor found in the S25 Ultra) and a 12MP ultrawide that doubles as a macro camera. While there’s no dedicated telephoto lens, Samsung claims the 200MP sensor enables “optical quality” 2x zoom and AI-enhanced 10x zoom. Also, the front houses a perfectly capable 12MP selfie camera with a wide 85-degree field of view.

ELITE PERFORMANCE

Where Samsung hasn’t skimped is when it comes to its raw power. The S25 Edge packs the same Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor and 12GB of RAM found in the rest of the S25 family. Interestingly, despite the constrained interior space due to the compact size, engineers managed to incorporate an expanded vapor chamber that reportedly exceeds the cooling system size found in the thicker S25+ model.

On the software front, the Edge runs Android 15 with Samsung’s One UI 7 on top, and includes all the Galaxy AI features introduced with the S25 lineup. As with all S25 models, Samsung promises seven years of OS updates and security patches, which should keep the Edge current through 2032.
