Strong feelings of nostalgia are often associated with Pac-Man (did you know the original word for Pac-Man was Puck Man?), and for good reason. The name alone conjures the smell of pizza and root beer, the bright flicker and sounds of arcade cabinets, and the feeling of defeat when you’re out of quarters (and having to beg your parents for more). LEGO summons similar feelings, especially with the Icon sets inspired by pop culture, famous landmarks, and vehicles. The video game installments, in particular, have been very popular like the NES set that came with an interactive TV. With Nintendo getting some love, it’s only fair that other video game legends do as well. Given Pac-Man’s iconic status as one of the most influential games of all time, it’s about time LEGO gave him some flowers. In comes the LEGO PAC-MAN Arcade set – the perfect sentimental addition to the Icon series.
Coming in at 2,651 pieces, the set is based on the classic Pac-Man arcade cabinet from 1980. Most of the development was focused on the mechanical maze on the “screen,” depicting the classic characters running around by turning the crank on the side. LEGO said a new chain element was developed to accomplish this impressive construction, which can be seen by removing the back panel. Adding to the retro feel are the coin slot light brick and the scoreboard. Regarding the dimensions, the finished set is 13 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 7 inches deep.
As for other additions, there’s a little eighties arcade scene included with the set featuring a minifigure and a small version of the arcade machine. Seasons builders can reminisce about dimly lit arcades and simpler times alongside younger ones discovering a video game icon.
The LEGO PAC-MAN Arcade Set is coming on June 4th, with VIP access starting June 1st, and will be priced at $269.99.
