A few weeks ago, IKEA announced that it was making moves to become a big player in the smart home industry with the upcoming release of its DIRIGERA and accompanying app. Now, for 2022 Milan Design Week, the Swedish furniture giant has unveiled something a little more carefree and less serious. Partnering with the music group Swedish House Mafia, IKEA is launching the OBEGRÄNSAD collection of home goods.
If the rise of homemade music wasn’t already pervading the creative industry over the past 15 years, the pandemic sure pushed it into the stratosphere. And that’s something IKEA has recognized with OBEGRÄNSAD, which translates to “unlimited.” The collection features a desk, armchair, and what will be the company’s first turntable in decades. While the furniture company has announced products in the past, such as the vinyl collaboration with Teenage Engineering, the OBEGRÄNSAD record player is expected to be sent into production for purchase at its stores.
Sporting a minimalist design, the blacked-out turntable has a protruding carousel and straightforward functionality, with a taller profile and matte finish that help it stand out in your room while also complementing your decor. Accompanying the vinyl player is the black desk, which was built for music creators at home, equipped with two stands specifically for speakers — such as IKEA’s ENEBY — and a pull-out shelf for a MIDI keyboard. Likewise, the black armchair is equally minimalist and features an adjustable strap to tailor the seat to your desired comfort level.
Launching fall of 2022, the OBEGRÄNSAD Collection may start out with the turntable, desk, and armchair, but will eventually feature more than 20 home furnishing products in total. The first products will begin to arrive at IKEA this fall, with pricing details to be revealed closer to the release date.
