While the Meta Quest is typically the first device that comes to mind on the topic of VR headsets, what with the Metaverse and all, HTC has served as a top-level competitor for Zuckerberg and Co. Now, the tech company finally unveiled its latest model intended to give the Meta Quest Pro a run for its money: the Vive XR Elite.

While Meta’s latest model was predominantly geared toward operating as an all-in-one station for creatives, the Vive XR hopes to excel in each of these departments while remaining surprisingly lightweight. Weighing in at merely 22 ounces, HTC’s latest is roughly 3.5 ounces lighter than the Meta Quest Pro. Aside from size and wearability, its impressive 3840×1920 combined resolution specs are merely one example of how prominent its graphic prowess is, proving that it’s highly capable of displaying anything from games to graphic illustrations. Further, the device boasts a massive total of 1920 pixels per eye, promoting lifelike pass-through capabilities.

Equipped with a quartet of wide field-of-view tracking cameras, a high-res RGB camera, and powered by Snapdragon XR2, it’s hard to imagine this being drastically different from Meta’s high-end model, especially considering Qualcomm’s same mixed reality platform brought the Meta Quest 2 to life. Alas, that’s neither here nor there, as it’s clear that this new device is ready to compete with anything the tech brand plans on putting forth — and the same goes for whenever Apple decides to release its oft-rumored headset.

Step into a new reality with HTC’s Vive XR Elite, available to pre-order on the brand’s webshop for $1,099.
