Sigma is one of those brands that’s just never really been interested in making a “normal” camera. When the original fp landed back in 2019, it ditched the mechanical shutter, the viewfinder, and the grip entirely. Sigma, instead, stuffed a full-frame sensor into a pocketable slab that filmmakers quickly ended up turning into a cult favorite.
Seven years and one aluminum-bodied BF detour later, the follow-up has finally arrived, and Sigma is once again claiming the world’s smallest full-frame crown with the all-new FP2.

434 Parts, Almost None of Them Old
Don’t let the familiar silhouette fool you. Of the 434 parts that make up the FP2, Sigma says only a handful carry over from the original. That starts with a new 24.5MP partially stacked sensor, which is reportedly the same speedy chip found in the Nikon ZR and Panasonic’s S1 II.

That faster readout definitely matters here, because the FP2 still runs exclusively on an electronic shutter. Rolling shutter wobble is largely tamed for the most part, with bursts hitting 20 frames per second. And the overhauled autofocus now tracks birds alongside people and pets. The whole setup weighs about 376 grams before you add the battery.
Flip the Switch, Roll Camera
The headline act sits on the top plate, where a dedicated switch flips the FP2 between Still and Cine modes (each with its own interface). In Cine trim, this thing is a legitimate pocket cinema camera, serving up 6K OpenGate recording at up to 60 fps, ProRes RAW at up to 6K/30p, and as many as 14.1 stops of dynamic range in L-Log.

Sigma even threw in a Director’s Viewfinder function that simulates the framing of an ARRI ALEXA 35 or Sony VENICE 2.

Fixing Seven Years of fp Gripes
Longtime fp faithful will clock the quality-of-life wins right when they see this thing. The screen finally tilts (90 degrees up, 45 down), battery life jumps roughly 30% to 370 shots, and 70GB of internal storage backs up the UHS-II SD slot for when cards fill mid-shoot.

There’s still no in-body stabilization, though. And the gorgeous optional EVF-21 (a tilting 5.76-million-dot OLED viewfinder) plugs into one of two USB-C ports.
