Each year, Apple graces us with a slew of new product announcements that usually include a new watch, phone, and more. This year, we see how the company is further exploring its Apple Intelligence advancements which it debuted back in June, including the first iPhone built from the ground up using this tech. We also get a new Apple Watch and AirPods, as well as some awesome new features for those living with hearing loss. Let’s dive in…

New Apple Product Releases Breakdown

Apple Watch Series 10

Featuring the biggest display ever on a wearable with 30% more screen area than the previous model, the Apple Watch Series 10 is better optimized for maximized font sizes and wider aspect ratios. The watch also has the first-ever wide-angle OLED display, which gives you a 40% brighter display when viewing the watch at an angle — helping out those nosy neighbors who want to see what you’re doing on your wrist. There’s also a re-engineered speaker system that lets you play music and podcasts directly through the watch itself.

Looks-wise, the watch gets rounded case corners while also being built for comfort. At 9.7mm, it’s the thinnest Apple Watch yet while also being 10% lighter. Joining the rose gold and aluminum cases is a new polished aluminum finish in glossy black, using a 30-step anodization process for a super sleek look.

It also finally joins the adventure-oriented Apple Watch Ultra with a titanium case version that’s 20% lighter in weight than stainless steel (and luckily at the same price). Made with 95% recycled titanium for a carbon-neutral construction, the titanium version comes in three colors with matching link bracelets.

The Apple Watch 10 has 18 hours of battery life and a 30-minute fast charge that gets you a whopping 80% battery life.

As for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which was revealed last year, there’s no new generation. However, Apple did reveal a new satin black finish for their titanium case, utilizing a custom blasting process. There’s also a new band option now — titanium mesh — which was inspired by vintage dive watch bands and is available in both natural and black.

The introduction of the Apple Watch 10 also comes with the debut of the Watch OS 11, which rolls out a tons of new features, including fall prevention, loudness alerts, heart tracking with AFIB alerts and medical reminders, and sleep tracking with sleep apnea detection and ovulation tracking. There is also a slew of new sophisticated apps for water activities, including visible water temperature sensors and specific apps for sports like surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding that can be used in tandem with your phone.

Available September 20, the Apple Watch Series 10 will be available for $399, with a cellular version at $499.

The new generation wireless earbuds have also been revealed with the AirPods 4, featuring a more comfortable, better fit that’s generalized more ear shapes. Powered by the H2 chip, these buds boast a new acoustic architecture with better basses and highs, a hearing protection feature, personalized spacial audio tech, and a single-touch button to play or pause music.

One of the biggest takeaways for us was a new head-nod capability, letting you answer Siri with head movements for “yes” or “no” rather than speaking aloud. We also love the new adaptive audio feature that recognizes when you’re engaging in conversation and actually lowers the volume of your music for you.

Apple also has a new, more portable wireless charging case with 30 hours of extra battery life. Now made entirely plastic-free with 100% fiber-based material, the cases also have new speakers to help with the Find My app and have a new USB-C port for charging.

While there’s only a slight update for the Air Pods Max, they do now come in new colors. And in terms of the Air Pods Pro 2, they will soon be able to double as hearing aids after the wearer takes a 5-minute, clinical-grade hearing test. It’s currently awaiting clearance for a fall rollout.

Starting at $129, the Air Pods 4 will be available on September 20. For the first time in the line, the Air Pods 4 also has a version with active noise cancellation for $50 more.

iPhone 16 and 16+

iPhone 16 16 Plus

Of course, this wouldn’t be an Apple Event without the announcement of a new iPhone. Featuring 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens are the iPhone 16 and 16+, with ceramic shield material covering the screen, which is 2 times tougher than any other smartphone screen on the market. Maxing out at 2,000 nits of brightness, the display can also get as low as 1 nit when it’s dark.

Major features include the new customizable action button on the case side, which can be used for anything from instant song recognition to translations to a flashlight at nighttime. Along with that, there’s also a new Camera Control button, allowing you to open the camera, take pictures or videos (depending on how long you press it), zoom in or out, adjust the depth of field, and more. You’ll also receive haptic feedback like on a shutter camera.

Powering the iPhone 16 models is the new A18 chip, boasting a speed 2 times faster than machine-learning engines with 17% more bandwidth. Its 6-core CPU is 30% faster than the previous A16 in the iPhone 15 (yes, Apple has jumped generations with this new version) and the 5-core GPU is 40% faster.

While the iPhone 16 Pro models covered below will fully explore Apple Intelligence — Apple’s AI-powered feature set — the standard 16 has some cool uses for the tech as well. This includes Grammarly-type edits on texts and emails, the ability to find specific photos from years before using a brief description of what you’re looking for, and AI-created emojis using your own descriptors (which feels like it has the potential to be reckless tbh). You can also have your phone summarize emails and notifications and even prioritize important ones near the top. Beta for these features will roll out next month.

There’s also the Visual Intelligence feature, which is similar to Google Lens in that it lets you do things such as search for restaurant reviews and add events to your calendar based on photos you take. The 16 and 16+ also have two cameras — a 48MP main Fusion camera and a 2x telephoto lens. The 48MP is a Fusion camera, which allows you to use both

Joining black and white colorways are the pink, teal, and blue models which couldn’t help but remind us of the old-school iMacs from the ‘90s. They’re also now made with 85% recycled materials. Priced at $799 and $899, respectively, the iPhone 16 and 16+ will go on presale on September 13, with a release date of September 20.

Release Date: 9/20
Screen Size: 6.1” (16) and 6.7” (16+)
Cameras: 48MP Fusion camera, 2x telephoto camera, and 12MP ultra-wide
Storage: 128GB
Starting Price: $799, $899

Piggybacking on the standard iPhone 16 is the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. These run on a more powerful version of the A18 chip called the A18 Pro. This is the fastest, most efficient chip that’s ever been in a smartphone from any brand before. It will benefit gamers, with maximum capability for any game available. However, it also features a third camera with a 5x telephoto lens.

Available with 6.3-inch (16 Pro) or 6.9-inch (16 Pro Max) screens, these phones have larger displays and the best battery life ever put in an iPhone at either 27 or 33 hours of video playback for the Pro and Pro Max, respectively. Not to forget, these models use grade 5 titanium in their housing just like their predecessors, which is almost half the weight of their steel counterparts.

The Pro and Pro Max are also the first iPhones to be built from the ground up to accommodate Apple Intelligence, elevated even further from the regular 16 models to include a semantics index which basically lets you look for anything on your phone based on your description, however loose. It can also provide photography suggestions for optimizing a certain shot you’re trying to get.

Available for pre-order on September 13, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models won’t go on sale until September 20, costing $999 and $1,199, respectively.
