When premium outerwear specialist Aether and legendary camera manufacturer Leica join forces, the result is rarely conventional. Inspired by Leica’s iconic “Reporter” series of cameras in army green, the companies first teamed up for the Reporter Jacket in 2024, which sold out in just 60 minutes.
Now, the two brands have returned with something even more compelling: the Reporter Jacket Monochrom. This blacked-out iteration references Leica’s celebrated monochromatic cameras while also transforming a photographer’s essential field garment into something approaching tactical apparel art. For those who missed the original run of 125 pieces, this sequel trades heritage green for something altogether more urbane.
FIELD-TESTED FUNCTIONALITY
Decked out in a stealthy Monochrom colorway, the new black Reporter Jacket maintains the meticulously considered design architecture of its predecessor, developed in close consultation with elite Leica photographers including Mathieu Bitton, Ragnar Axelsson, Cira Crowell, and Misan Harriman. Clever design details include a collar pocket for SD cards, internal battery slots (that also fit rolls of film), and large, soft-lined pockets capable of holding a camera or lens. There’s also an oversized back pocket that accommodates a tablet or additional gear. The shift to monochrome mirrors the industry’s own transition from the romantic image of the conflict photographer to today’s diverse creative ecosystem.
Of course, outsiders might raise an eyebrow at the $750 price tag. But with Leica, it’s always been an IYKYK type of thing. Serious photographers already willing to pay the premium for the brand’s equipment will likely be unsurprised by the sticker price and more than willing to meet it, as evident with the speed at which the first version sold out!
