Porsche and Almond Surfboards are back with the sequel to their successful 2024 collaboration that celebrated the iconic Porsche colors of the ’60s. The pair has now returned with a collection inspired entirely by the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7, which is still one of the most significant 911s ever built. Just in time for the summer, the collection translates the vehicle’s ethos into surfboards and apparel better than we’ve ever seen it before.

Racing Heritage Meets Ocean Culture
Establishing the brand’s commitment to lightweight construction and introducing the ducktail spoiler, the RS 2.7 was a homologation special debuting in 1972, becoming the first to be called “Carrera” and also the first-ever RS model.
Meanwhile, in Southern California around that time, surf culture was really taking off beyond trendiness. Board makers were suddenly leaning into performance instead of just flashiness.
Back in ’72, the RS 2.7 wasn’t just a track car but became a cultural symbol, especially in places like Malibu and Santa Monica where driving and surfing went hand in hand.

The Centerpiece: 72 Boards for ’72
Easily the collection’s marquee item is the 6-foot winged swallowtail surfboard that evokes both the RS 2.7’s distinctive silhouette and the classic board designs of the early ’70s. Handcrafted in California from polyurethane foam with basswood stringers and wrapped in fiberglass, each board starts with Grand Prix White as its base, which happens to be the same shade used for the original RS. From there, you can choose red, blue, or green accents to mirror the car’s racing stripes.
Nodding to the vehicle’s debut year, the surfboard will be limited to just 72 examples, each carrying signature Carrera lettering, the Porsche crest, and Almond’s logo alongside a “72” racing number. The underside features Porsche branding and a color-matched single fin that subtly references the iconic Fuchsfelge wheels from the RS. The board’s fuller outline and narrower tail are intentionally designed for performance on the water too.

Beyond the Board: A Complete Lifestyle Package
Along with the surfboard, the collection includes other items aimed to capture the laid-back SoCal surf culture of yesteryear. This includes vintage-style tees and hats that feature the collaboration’s “Single Fins & Air Cooled Engines” mantra.
Our favorite ancillary piece is probably the pigment-dyed ocean-blue sweatshirt with hand-stitched felt lettering that reads, “Single Fin Air Cooled.” This time around, the brands have also included a beach towel with a cool sketch of the RS 2.7 with board, canvas totes, boardshorts, and hand-stitched surf flags that reference either “Zuffenhausen” (Porsche’s main factory) or “Weissach” (their development center).
For the completists, there’s also a model car, sticker sets, and other small-batch collectibles. There will even be a guidebook coming soon highlighting the best surf spots in southern California.
