On’s Cloudprime Runner Is the First-Ever Shoe Made of Carbon Emissions

When it comes to eco-friendly performance wear, On is a brand that has led the way, and it’s looking to push the envelope even further. With the reveal of its latest Cloudprime running shoe, it has managed to craft a product using the carbon emissions that it produced.

The brand’s CleanCloud manufacturing technique comes from working with Borealis and LanzaTech, two high-level names in the world of sustainable resources. The three developed a state-of-the-art EVA compound composed of carbon waste. Moreover, On led the innovative process while Borealis had the resourceful knowledge of renewable materials and LanzaTech provided the ethanol captured for the sake of turning into the midsole itself.

Moreover, ethanol comes to shape by the fermentation of carbon monoxide. Following the lengthy, scientific process of transforming the ethanol into ethylene, On delivered the innovative midsole to its partners at Zucca, who ultimately composed the first-ever CleanCloud shoe. On’s willingness to push things forward from a sustainability standpoint remains one of its most prominent traits, and we can only expect the shoe’s quality to stand up to it.

On says that “Making five pairs of the Cloudprime was an incredible story. But we’re thinking about five million — and more.” On that note, we’re counting the days until it can pull off such a feat. For now, read more about On’s new CleanCloud project on its site.
