As one of the most anticipated sneaker drops of this young year, Virgil Abloh’s first posthumous release with Nike is quite the head-turner. By completely re-working a pair of emblematic Blazer Lows, the late designer’s spin on the iconic silhouette is unlike any we’ve seen to date.
Inspired by Nike’s multi-sport-appropriate archives, Abloh looked to fuse many of these examples into one, practically delivering on a pair made up of basketball, skateboarding, and trail running elements. Looking to keep things innovative, Virgil and the Off-White team implemented a TPU heel piece and punched-out holes throughout the entire upper. Another unique feature is the shoe’s accented over lace, resulting in an interesting lace system akin to those on the sprawling array of Dunks that Abloh previously designed.
This is easily one of the boldest pairs to have come from the late designer’s partnership with the world-famous performance brand, and it is sad to know that there is only a finite number of these collabs remaining to see the light of day. Be that as it may, this new release serves as an incredible showcase of what could have been while providing a breath of fresh air to the sometimes monotonous world of sneaker releases.
This unique homage to the design icon is one of the most talked-about Nike releases in months.
