Oakley Just Dropped Some Very Y2K Golf Shoes

They say fashion trends follow a 20-year cycle, and if that’s anything to go by, it certainly explains the current obsession with early 2000s style. Oakley had a big presence during that era, and the brand’s loveably nostalgic gear and apparel have always been a favorite among Y2K fashion heads. Although the label is best known for its glasses in the sports scene, Oakley is looking to expand its golf offerings with a new silhouette, the Oakley Edge Icon, taking inspiration from the Oakley Flesh.

These slip-ons may not look like your average golf shoes, but they’ve been purpose-built to tackle the links with a PU leather and neoprene upper, polyester lining, and an EVA and rubber outsole. On the bottom, there’s a spikeless POD traction system to mimic the traction you’d get from traditional golf shoes, and the entire shoe has a water-repellent treatment to keep your feet dry. It’s also equipped with a quick-drying 4-way stretch for added comfort and freedom of movement, and extra support for your arch and midfoot using stabilizing TPU. As for the look here, it’s finished with that classic Oakley Ellipse on the vamp, tread, and heel, along with O-Frame branding in TPU and an Oakley stretch logo on the security strap.

It’s clear that Oakley took plenty of design ideas from the Oakley Flesh silhouette, which has been getting more and more popular thanks to the Oakley Factory Team’s collabs with forward-thinking labels like Brain Dead. Regarding this release, Oakley says, “There’s nothing subtle about Edge Icon—and that’s entirely on purpose. We infused this shoe with performance details designed to give you stability, balance, comfort and flexibility during the unique motion of a golf swing.”
