When it comes to athletic gear, we’re well aware that Nike comes through with some of the best. Whether it be running, hiking, or skating, the Swoosh has a comfortable and stylish pair of shoes to meet the challenge. Just last month, Nike tapped a talented, goofy-footed skater, Leo Baker, to create their own signature pair of skate shoes, and they came through with the Nike SB React Leos.
Getting into the construction, these shoes start with a durable blended upper featuring leather, suede, and satin, connected to satin side panels embroidered with the legendary Leo Baker’s name. In the middle, you’re getting Nike’s React foam, providing the responsiveness you expect from Nike’s athletic gear. Finally, they’re finished with a rubber outsole with a traction pattern that’s very skate-friendly. Regarding the shoe’s construction, Baker stated, “The overlays with the toe cap create three layers, so it takes a long time to wear through. The triple stitching on the toe really helps with the durability. I wanted it to last long but skate well out of the box, so this new vulc-cup combo is perfect for that. It’s everything I could have ever dreamed of in a shoe. I’m really proud of it.”
At the time of writing, the Nike SB React Leos are coming in the Cacao Wow/Cacao Wow/Earth/Black colorway you see here, along with the White/Black colorway and the Black/Black/Gum Light Brown/White colorway. This marks not only Leo Baker’s first signature shoe, but also the first signature shoe from a transgender athlete, a first for both Baker and Nike, proving that the Swoosh is still a future-forward label with its finger on the pulse of culture.
The Nike SB React Leo skate shoes are available now for $95, and they come pre-broken in for a lived-in look and feel right out of the box. And the colorway we’ve featured here is perfect for the fall season.
