As a leader in innovation across the board, Nike has continuously managed to find ways to deliver its products in a more eco-cognizant fashion. The world-famous performance brand’s latest program, Re-Creation, looks to pull this off on an entirely new level, and it’s going to need a helping hand from locals to do it.
The Swoosh’s new program collects vintage and/or headstock articles of clothing and re-hashes them into new, locally-designed products. The Beaverton-based brand claims that Re-Creation falls in line with “the ultimate goal of a zero-carbon, zero-waste future,” all the while shedding a light on local artists and up-and-coming designers — in other words, this is a win-win situation for everyone involved.
The first collection of pieces that have garnered a makeover includes a trio of Nike’s most recognizable hoodies and crewnecks inspired by the sports culture embedded in Los Angeles, a city that has more professional teams than it does arenas to house them individually. These reimagined garments have been embellished with patches and decorative stitching that are exclusive to the city in which they’re available, with SoCal happening to be the brand’s first pit-stop.
As the successor to its now-defunct recycling program, Nike Grind, the athletic label has surely managed to reinvent itself for the better of everyone with its new announcement. As of May 26, Nike Re-Creation pieces are available to purchase at its first opening at The Grove in Los Angeles.
