It’s no secret that Nike is leading the charge when it comes to innovative designs that push the industry forward, and the Swoosh always strikes the perfect balance between style and utility. In the late 2010s, Nike developed something called Lunarlon, and as the name would suggest, this tech was inspired by the weightlessness that astronauts experience on the moon. This foam was designed to evenly absorb impact as you run, with a lightweight construction that doesn’t hinder performance. Building off of the Lunarlon tech, Nike is putting its Lunar foam on full display with the Nike Lunar Roam, a pair of city-friendly runners with out-of-this-world cushioning.

Getting into the construction, Nike has equipped these kicks with a new and improved Lunar foam midsole that wraps around the shoe in these ridged horizontal lines, providing incredibly soft cushioning and support. On the upper, you’re getting a breathable mix of textile and mesh with Magwire cables to enhance stability while you’re running. The runners are finished with a rubber outsole designed for traction in multiple environments and grey TPU mudguards, and they come in this ocean-inspired “Alabaster and Green Abyss” colorway.

Nike introduced us to Lunarlon back in 2008, and it paved the way for future advancements in Nike’s cushioning technology. It was originally designed to reduce impact for marathon runners, and the tech has since been used in a variety of silhouettes to enhance support. But now they’re really letting it shine on the Lunar Roams, and complementing it with a a bit of retrofuturism in the design.

The Nike Lunar Roam will drop tomorrow, 12/15, for $150 in the “Alabaster and Green Abyss” colorway. At the time of writing, it looks like there’s only one colorway on offer, but there may be some new ones on the horizon after they officially drop.
