It’s safe to say that Nike knows a thing or two about basketball shoes. Practically igniting this modern era of hooping footwear back in the ’80s, the Swoosh has spread its catalog so wide that we tend to forget just how comfortable their sneakers are for the hardwood.
For the fourth iteration of its “Greater Than” line, Nike is introducing the G.T. Cut 4, claiming to be their most comfortable basketball shoes yet, upgrading the ZoomX midsole introduced with the previous model.

A Legacy Built on Speed
Since 2021, the G.T. Cut line has carved out its own identity in Nike’s basketball roster. Born from conversations with WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu and other elite athletes who needed shoes that prioritized quick cuts to the hoop, the series has always been about “space makers” — guards and kinetic players who create separation through movement rather than raw power. The original Zoom G.T. Cut made waves with its React cushioning and low-top silhouette, while the G.T. Cut 3 took things up a notch with full-length ZoomX foam that made it one of the lightest options on the market.

Maximum Cushion, Minimal Weight
With the G.T. Cut 4, Nike has doubled down on court feel. The shoe packs ZoomX 3.0 foam in the midsole — Nike’s softest and most responsive cushioning tech ever — paired with a parabolic Zoom Strobel and RBR-X foam for stability. There’s also a Cushlon carrier for added support. This combination should give players the kind of underfoot responsiveness that translates to explosive steps off the dribble and also more confident landings after going airborne.
The traction pattern underneath has been reworked too. Nike calls it “generative,” which should help with sharper direction changes and quick cuts that define modern basketball. The upper features a 3D-molded collar, molded vamp tongue, and an exoskeleton-casted containment system, all designed to keep your foot locked in during multidirectional movement. There are only four lace loops, streamlining the design while maintaining a secure fit.

Asking the Experts
Nike Basketball’s Ross Klein says they took what players loved from past G.T. Cut models and evolved it with deeper insights from athletes worldwide. The result is an ultramodern low-top with a sleek silhouette that features distinctive vents running along the side panels. First spotted on Paige Bueckers’ feet during WNBA All-Star Weekend, the debut “Preheat” colorway features a metallic, iridescent Persian Violet and Glacier Blue finish.
