Now that we know the four colleges heading into this season’s College Football Playoff (Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama), fans are getting ready to root for their favorite team. To help you get into gear for the upcoming games, Nike dropped the Nike Air Trainer 1 “College Football Playoff” shoes, a pair of retro sneakers commemorating the 2024 College Football Playoff tournament.

These collegiate kicks are built with a leather upper and come equipped with that classic forefoot strap the Air Trainer 1 is known for (allowing you to personalize the fit as well). Yet another classic feature, Nike’s Air cushioning, is used to provide support and absorb impact, and it sits above a rubber outsole. They’re finished with some fun patches you can use to customize the heel and commemorate this year’s tournament, and a unique metallic gold swoosh (featured on both colorways).

The OG Nike Air Trainer 1 was dropped in 1987 after designer Tinker Hatfield decided he was done lugging around multiple pairs of shoes for his workouts. So, he got into the lab and designed a pair of sneakers meant to do it all, combining the best of basketball shoes, runners, and street-friendly sneakers. These days, the Air Trainer 1 is a bit of an underdog in Nike’s catalog, but any real fans of the Swoosh (and sneakerheads in general) give the silhouette the love it deserves, and this commemorative drop should put some new fans on to the style.

The Nike Air Trainer 1 “College Football Playoff” shoes are available now for $140 in the “Black/Anthracite/Metallic Gold/Gold Leaf” and “White/White/Metallic Gold/Gold Leaf” colorways. Do keep in mind that this is a Member Product, so you’ll need to make an account with Nike if you don’t already have one.
