After 41 iterations, Nike’s Pegasus is still unafraid to evolve, in terms of both comfort and looks. That was never more clear last year, with the debut of the first-ever Pegs to feature ReactX foam, improving responsiveness by 13%, and the EasyOn variant with the addition of quick toggle laces. Of course, you also saw the debut of the Pegasus 41 PQ, which took a minimalist approach to the iconic running sneaker. But with all these innovations and updates, Nike is still unafraid to celebrate its history, as it does here with the Air Pegasus 2005.
Resurrecting the popular mid-’00s silhouette, Nike has delivered the Air Pegasus 2005 in a whopping 10 colorways, including the running-focused Volt, the period-correct metallic silver-over-khaki, or the streetwear-friendly Pale Ivory-over-black. Either way you slice it, however, the sneaker is built with the same superb construction as always, including the mixed uppers that combine synthetic leather and textile for a layered look that favors durability. You’ll also get the comfy foam midsole and waffle-inspired rubber outsole for traction just like nearly every Pegasus has had since it debuted over four decades ago.
Of course, underfoot you’ll have the legendary Nike Air pockets that absorb impact when you run. Air cushioning tech was the first of its kind when it debuted in the late-’70s, leveraging the absence of weight to improve comfort and performance. It’s been present in at least the heel of the Pegasus since its debut in 1983, birthed from the desire to present a running shoe for the “every runner” rather than the more specialized models that were flooding the industry a decade earlier.
For a retro kick that still looks as fresh as ever, head over to Nike’s web store where you can pick up a pair of the Air Pegasus 2005 for just $150.
