Just because the sunshine is out doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pack a quality windbreaker for the journey. However, you don’t want something so bulky that it takes up half of your bag, or something too warm that it will slow you down or become uncomfortable when you start to burn up a little bit on the trail. Always blending form and function for the outdoors, Nike’s ACG label has the perfect solution with its “Cinder Cone” Windproof Jacket, which will hardly add any weight to your load.

Available in either black or glacier blue, the “Cinder Cone” is made with 100% recycled nylon fibers — using old carpets and used fish nets — with a woven fabric that won’t just keep you dry but keep the wind out as well. Intended for warm days that might face unexpected rain or cold, the jacket also comes with a hood with an adjustable bungee cord at the rear. There’s also a bungee at the hem for blocking out extra breezes down below. For storage, there are a couple of zippered hand pockets, one of which can stow the entire jacket entirely, equipped with a carabiner for easy hanging inside your backpack.

While the “Cinder Cone” was designed and tested in Oregon, the jacket was inspired by the Big Island of Hawaii. ACG went to the Aloha State to take a look at the majestic black sand beaches and large waves that help make up the volcanic landscape. The oval-shaped cinder cones themselves are formed from cooled lava. Just as in the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii often has warm days interrupted by bursts of rain or wind, making this Windproof Jacket the perfect fit.
