Clarks Brings Back the Wallabee Lite, the ’80s Deep Cut That Ditched Crepe

There’s an unwritten rule among Wallabee loyalists that the crepe sole is non-negotiable. It’s the whole point, the gummy foundation that’s carried the moccasin from Kingston sound systems to Wu-Tang album covers over the better part of six decades. Which makes Clarks’ latest archival pull a fascinating little act of heresy: the return of the Wallabee Lite.

A Deep Cut From 1986

The original Lite debuted back in 1986, when Clarks decided its icon could stand to lose some weight. Out went the signature crepe, in came a lightweight EVA sole that made the shoe noticeably easier to live with, all without disturbing the moc-stitched silhouette up top.

And while we love crepe, it does have some flaws worth mentioning. It runs heavy, wears down quicker than you’d like, and turns to chewing gum on hot pavement. The Lite quietly solved all of that, then vanished from the catalog before most people even knew it existed.

Rebuilt, Not Reissued

Rather than running the ’86 design back verbatim, Clarks reengineered it for 2026. The new high-density EVA sole keeps the original’s slim profile while coming in lighter, softer, and more durable than the compound it replaces, and there’s a removable foam footbed inside for good measure.

Up top, nothing’s been messed with. The soft suede upper, two-eyelet lacing, embossed heel branding, and dangling Originals fobs are all present and accounted for. Each pair also ships with two lace sets, tonal flats and flecked rounds, so you can dial the character up or down as you see fit.
