As those cold spring mornings start to transition into hot summer days, that’s usually a sign that it’s time to break out the sandals. But a pair of flip-flops won’t do if you’re looking for a more refined look – in comes the huarache, a classic leather sandal with Mexican origins and a whole lot of style. One of Huckberry’s house brands, Luca, is no stranger to classic leather footwear and opts for high-quality materials like natural crepe rubber soles made from the milk of the Hevea tree. It just so happens that the label also offers its own take on the classic sandal with the Luca Huarache, and it’s handmade with roughout leather.

Made by hand with care in Guatemala, these huaraches are built using leather welted construction with an Alfamex Minus Roughout upper (which doubles as the lining, as there isn’t any traditional lining to keep the sandals lightweight) for a super smooth interior and a textured exterior. This sits on an EVA midsole for support and a firm leather footbed that will mold to your feet as you wear them over time. To make things even more comfortable, you’re getting a flexible sole that doesn’t need to be broken in, along with a natural crepe outsole that will develop a unique fade over time. The sandals are finished with Luca’s logo heat-embossed on the heels, and they make for the perfect summertime companions.

As for the sizing and wearing recommendations, these huaraches are made to be worn with or without socks and come in a regular fit that’s true to size. The price point for these sandals is also super impressive, especially considering that they’re handmade and use high-quality leather and materials.
